Since man first decorated his cave wall with a burnt stick, art has played an important role in what it is to be human. The ability to appreciate art is unique to us as a species and not shared by any other creature. However, that is not to say we all like, or dislike, the same thing - it would be extremely tedious if that was the case.

I make no apology for my preference for visual art, over some of the more supposedly 'cutting-edge' mediums, such as installation, performance, video, light shows or even pickled sharks! These are the emperor’s fine new clothes much applauded by art critics, sensationalizing how avant-garde we all have become. But wait, look, a naked man - surely you can see him too! Or is it just a sad and lonely, lovely work of art?

Hechel, Schmidt-Rottluff, Nolde Gabriele Munter, Turner, Cézanne and many other great artists have touched the stars and inspired me to paint. I like to think that occasionally one of these giants may glance down and see an insignificant man, such as me, standing on the roof with arms outstretched into the night sky.

Ray Galvani

Ray Galvani was born in the 1940's in Hampshire, England. He has two younger sisters both of whom are trained artists. Ray has not had any formal Art training. His style can best be described as Primitive or Naïve, in the tradition of the outside artist. Ray has painted all his life- his paintings are vibrant, imaginative and executed without any preconceived art practice influence. Oil paint is his chosen medium and this is liberally applied to a stretched canvas bearer which is then (after a six months drying period) given a protective coat of non-yellowing picture varnish. Ray also frames his paintings personally.
